At Our Lady of the Lakes Catholic School, we use technology to give students a context for learning technology through subject areas, making all learning more relevant. We recognize that technology is at the forefront of education and we have implemented our Apple 1:1 iPad program. All students in grades K-12 are issued an iPad to be used through the school year. We also have two computer labs for our students to use when more robust computing is necessary. Our campus-wide wireless internet allows a seamless stream of information at the fingertips of our students.
We understand that technology is an important aspect of education and having technology in every student’s hands is vital to their success. Our technology initiative uses digital curriculum materials, student collaboration tools, and individualized instruction in all subject areas with the goal of enhancing student learning. We strive to keep our staff trained on the latest professional development regarding technology in the classroom. Lakes has adopted the SAMR model for instructional practices. Our trained staff is always looking for ways to have technology transform the way that we are learning in the classroom. The goal is for classroom delivery to meet the needs of 21st century learners. Lakes feels that with this technology readily available, our students are learning lifelong skills that are applied in and outside of the classroom.
Our Lady of the Lakes takes great pride in educating our students in what it means to be a “Digital Citizen.” As Catholics, we also take great pride in our daily effort to be a disciple of Christ. We want our students to recognize and learn to how handle the many online hazards they will face every day, but we also want them to recognize what is means to be a disciple online, as well as offline. Today, our children are using digital media for socialization, instantaneous news, exploration, creativity, and so much more. Here at Lakes we want to ensure that our curriculum and resources teach our students how to participate in our digital world responsibly, ethically and morally. Our staff will educate the students in the basics of faith-based educational technology and safety, and give them the tools to become a disciple on social media networks, in the classroom and in their everyday life.
