Over the weekend, Laker Robotics competed in their second district competition for the year. They were feeling confident coming off of their win at Ann Arbor and seemed to dominate the field once again. They finished qualification in First place with the record of 9-3.
Our Lady of the Lakes athletic department is excited to announce the hiring of two new varsity head coaches. Dan Webster (’80) has joined OLL as head coach of the varsity baseball program and Marc Summers, will take over head coaching duties for the boys varsity basketball team.
Opening day of the spring season at Michael Boyd Athletic complex saw the Lakers softball team split a double header with Madison Heights Bishop Foley. The Lakers won the first game 4-0 behind an 18 strikeout no hit performance by 2018 Bowling Green University pledge Hannah Davies.
Our 3rd, 4th and 5th grade elementary students have been working in cooperation with the Society of Automotive Engineers (SAE) for the past several weeks. The SAE sponsors a program called A World In Motion (AWIM) which is made possible by donors such as General Motors.
The Daughters of the American Revolution is a women’s service organization dedicated to promoting historic preservation, education, patriotism and honoring the patriots of the Revolutionary War. DAR members provide millions of hours of community service each year around the world.
Each year our 5th grade students participate in the Annual Our Lady of the Lakes Science Fair. But this is not just a one night event. These students begin their work in December and take months of time and research to complete their project by March.

Over the weekend, the robotics team, Laker Robotics, competed at Ann Arbor Pioneer High School. They had to compete against 40 other schools, including Waterford Kettering. They finished the qualification rounds with a record of 7-4-1 and was ranked in 11th place.
Last week, the third grade visited the Henry Ford Museum of American Innovations. Students were able to explore vibrant exhibits in a variety of forms.
MIPrepZone photo & article by Dan Fenner Overcoming a sluggish start in the face of intense defensive pressure, Waterford Our Lady of the Lakes steadily battled back from an early nine-point deficit to dispatch Sterling Heights Parkway Christian, 57-51, in a Class D regional final Thursday.
The DIA trip was so fun! We got to see the Detroit After Dark exhibit which showcased photographs of the city at night. I saw a photograph of a lone car in the middle of a flooded road, and one with very cool graffiti. Another part of the exhibit was where they showcased older photographs taken of Detroit and they were displayed in glass cases.
The Lakers Varsity boys basketball team was able to advance Wednesday evening with a 67-61 pre-district victory over the Novi Franklin Rd Christian Warriors. Trailing by two with 1:56 left in the first half the Lakers finished with a 7-0 run to take 35-30 lead into halftime.
In a ritual as old as the game itself, fathers and sons have played catch with two leather gloves and a dirty baseball in the backyard. But one day, it stops: fathers will grow old and sons will grow up, leaving the gloves to collect dust.

It was quite the weekend for the 7/8 Grade Lady Lakers basketball team, after a year full of lopsided wins the girls had to dig deep to gut out two close victories.
Last week, our 4th graders went to Lansing to visit our state capitol and the Michigan Historical Museum. At our capitol building, students build upon their understanding of what our government does and the principles of American democracy, specifically popular sovereignty, rule of law, checks and balances, separation of powers and individual rights as stated in the Constitution.
The fifth graders that competed in this year’s You Be the Chemist challenge were Andrew Fergin, Nina Fondaw, Derek Hallman, Dane Langnes, Alexandria LeCureux, Jack Romkema and Grant Summers.
On Tuesday, March 1, a number of our Middle School students and parents took part in the “March Into Literacy” at the Waterford Township Public Library. The Teen Librarian, Ms. Mary Rice, provided our students and parents with information on how to navigate the library’s card catalog and web page.
