Our Lady of the Lakes community is blessed to be one of only 3 Pre-Kindergarten through 12 parish schools in the Archdiocese of Detroit. Our students attend weekly Mass in our parish church. Elementary attend Mass each Friday at 8:15 a.m., and our secondary students attend on Thursday at 8:15 a.m. These school Masses are open to the parish and wider community as well. During the liturgy, our students take active roles as altar servers, lectors, choir members and cantors, gift bearers and extraordinary ministers of Holy Communion. The entire school community will also come together for Mass on various occasions such as September 8, the Nativity of the Blessed Virgin Mary, during Thanksgiving week and Catholic Schools Week, and at the end of the school year.
Throughout the school year there are many other opportunities for individual and communal prayer. Our School Chapel is used for prayer services and Rosaries are offered once a week. The Knights of Columbus lead them Wednesday mornings at 7 a.m. The first Friday of each month the Blessed Sacrament is exposed in the School Chapel for faculty and students to spend time in prayer and adoration. Each school year begins with a novena to the Holy Spirit and the Mass of the Holy Spirit during which we pray for a greater outpouring of the Spirit’s gifts for the coming year.
